It's so sad...

One of my fave profs is leaving SMU. Prof Marcos has just sent a mass email to all his students (current and former). He's been offered a full professor-ship at International University Bremen in good ol' Deutschland; the home of beer, Oktoberfest and Nazis.

I remember him as a kooky, bald-headed guy with a strange accent and a love of Red Bull (something he guzzled frequently between sentences in class apart from copious amounts of water). He would amuse us with his great sense of humour, which was somewhat of a godsend during lazy Thursday afternoons. Then, using a lazy, drunken drawl, he would break down complex concepts into standard English that we mere mortals could comprehend.

He is a nice person too, and no matter how busy, would never turn down writing referrals for his students (for internships, activities etc). On top of that, there has been once or twice when he would say hello to me voluntarily with a friendly wave.

Oh well... apparently he left cos stingy SMU refused to grant him a full professor-ship. Hmm...
