Week 2 done. Finally! Got 2 assignments to juggle now and deadlines to meet. Not very fixed but the fact that they're there makes me wanna clear them.
I've pretty much gotten into the rhythm of things now. Arriving, relaxing for a bit, starting work, going to lunch, continuing work, finishing up and then leaving.
One thing I have really learnt to look forward to though, is lunch time. I've never until now realized how important it is. To many an office worker, it's sacred.
Why?
Firstly, the natural need for food.
Secondly, the need to wind down and have some human interaction.
Lastly, the fact that half the work day is gone.
The last one especially gives many hope. Haha.
Not only is lunch itself important, but how you go about doing it. I've noticed a few little quirks that always happens at mealtimes. This usually comes in the form of tissue paper choping, insanely long queues and tables full of people that don't know each other, but have to sit together cos they have no choice.
And somehow, over the din and bustle of food centres or coffeeshops like Lau Pa Sat, everyone manages to get a meal and return to their workplaces on time.
Thankfully, my colleague, Kelly, has been bringing me and Sharlene about. We've tasted lots of great food, like beef noodles, wanton mee and nasi lemak that only costs $2.30. Raffles Place and its surrounding areas are full of every type of food imaginable in Singapore.
Then there's the retail aspect too. Catering to the office crowds, places like UOB Plaza and Raffles Exchange have shops that sell office wear, stalls with foods that can be eaten on-the-go, and numerous convenience stores and sundry shops for last minute shoppers. All the conveniences of modern life packed into one broad area to support the people.
And as we all know, it's the people that drives Singapore's economic machinery, nothing else. =)
