Met up with my girlfriends today. As usual, I was the earliest. Reached at 5.45pm and pretty much bummed around Bugis Junction till it was time.

Met up with Mar first, or rather she spotted me from a distance. After that, went to look for the Cel, Fui and Cla.

Eventually, after some wandering, we all came together and headed out to walk to Arab Street. Our destination was Amirah's Grill Restaurant and Cafe, a quaint little place that sold Middle Eastern food.

We headed straight upstairs to a private area Fui and Cla had booked. The restaurant was done up in a mix of Egyptian and Middle Eastern decor. The top storey had the usual dining tables and chairs, but apart from this, the four corners were partioned off and raised off the floor to form little private "cubicles". We headed to ours, the Cleopatra room.

We huddled around the little table, admiring our little area. There was another "cubicle" adjacent to ours, but privacy was ensured with wooden blinds. The ceiling had swathes of gauzy cloth hanging across it, and a Turkish glass lamp hung from the ceiling. In the middle of the private "room", there was a modern-looking wooden low table, and the carpet-lined floor around it was littered with cushions. On the wall there were pictures of Egyptian paintings, done in traditional hieroglypics style. In the background, hidden speakers filled the air with Arab music.

The place was a cosy little corner, and being a very snuggly and romantic place, the management expected young couples to engage in hanky panky. Thus, a sign stood out like a sore thumb among the drapings.

So anyway, we ordered the food, and gossiped, and gossiped and gossiped... Pretty soon, without even noticing the passage of time, our dishes arrived.

The basket on the left is full of this thick, triangular-shaped pieces of pita bread. The sauces for dipping in this dish on the right. The grey one is sesame, and the white one we have no idea.

We also tried out each others' dishes. They were largely meat dishes with some sort of curried potato salad as a side-dish.

Cel's kebab. Very jiucy and tender.

My chicken chop in mushroom sauce. Kinda Western if you think about it.

Everyone got to taste a bit of everybody's food, cos being girls, we decided to share-share.

There were also drinks as well.

My Emirates Laban, a surprisingly light and frothy mixture of yoghurt and milk. It was like a milkshake, but not as heavy or rich as one. The erm... small tree growing on top is a sprig of mint.

Even after the main course, we were still hungry. So, we ordered another basket of pita bread, some fries with cheese sauce, and shared a sandwich (which actually was pita bread wrapped around grilled meat in olive oil. Frankly, it looked like popiah.)

Once we were done, we ended the outing with a round of picture-taking before leaving.

Everyone smile!

Picture perfect indeed.
