Today was a rather hectic day, had to wake up early and drift into TJ for SYF Drama Rehearsal. Damn, I was asleep on my feet, n I cldnt believe I was waltzing into TJ at an ungodly hour of 8.30am on a Sat morning!
Later, had to carry props, the chessboard, urns and chesspieces tt we had all lovingly made over the past few weeks. The chessboard was the real killer. It consists of a piece of silk on the floor, and another one stretched over 3 upright panels meant to be linked together to form the backdrop of the play. The panels were monstrously heavy, and it just so happened tt the one me, Sheryl and Nicholas got was the panel wif the door in it. Stupid thing wif the broken lock kept flopping open every time we tried to carry the folded panel anywhere.
We set up the 3 panels, practising putting it up within the time limit of ard 5 mins. Then, we left it to stand while we went for a break.
We were all relaxing, taking a brief respite from the heat of the day when crash!
The 3 panels had fallen on the floor, blown over by the wind. The hinges for panel A had been ripped apart in the process.
Everyone just stared. Zhiwei, this guy who was in charge of prop making,
gravely surveyed the damage.
Marcus Tan walked past, glared once at all of us, then strode into the audi. Not even pausing for comment. "He's an evil bastard," muttered one of the year ones.
After tt, emergency procedures. All of us supporting the panel while
Zhiwei whipped out an enormous power drill and drilled the screws for the hinges back into place. The day was saved! Yaay!
Then, showtime! ^_^ The first combined rehearsal of cast and crew.
The people in charge of the silk went in first, laying and stretching the covering taut on the floor. This was followed by the panel ppl, and last of all the urns, which were real murder to carry cos it was rough as the paint was mixed wif sawdust! CJ and Hui Xun had been badly bruised while carrying them.
Then, we pulled the panels upright, dumped everything in place and the show began.
Not bad for the first trial run. Though me, Sheryl, Zubaidah, Vasudha and Gwen had to stand throughout the 30 mins of "Ji(ang)!" as we had to stabilize the supports for the panels. It was really horrible. Imagine standing 30 mins of not moving a muscle and staying rock-still cos the audience cld see ur outline. We were really glad went it was over.
Then, one more trial run and then ***Home***!
